Are classics made to be re-writen? In this daring solo, Martin Hansen mixes human labour, complex stage instructions with the most iconic work in dance history, Pavlova’s ‘Dying Swan’. A playful enterprise of reconstruction and destruction, 'Monumental’ questions the fine line between the canonical and the common.

Biography

Martin Hansen is a choreogapher and a dancer. He graduated at the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin in 2014.

His work ‘If Its All In My Veins’ explores dance history through GIF’s was a finalist in the 2016 Kier Choreographic Awards. ‘If Its All In My Veins’ was presented at Dancehouse Melbourne and Carriageworks Sydney. It will be developed into a full evening length piece and presented at Dance Massive Festival (Melbourne) 2017.

In 2012 Martin was named ‘Dancer of the Year’ by Tanz Magazin. He was a danceweb scholar in 2013 and was the winner of the Origin Foundation Scholarship in 2014. In 2015 Martin received the Einstiegs Forderrung from the Berliner Senate and Art Start funding from the Australia Council.
