Wired Studio (DK) & Kimchi and Chips (KR/UK)

Collective Behaviour

September 3rd - 5th September, 2025, 19:30 & September 6th, 2025, 16:00
(Closed preview September 2nd)

“Collective Behaviour” takes us on a hypnotic journey where the boundary between individual and community is dissolved in an enchanting mirror universe. With reflections and light, Danish Wired Studio and South Korean Kimchi and Chips expand our perception of the possible and create a powerful visual work.

Endless reflections. Illusions in motion. A dance that reshapes reality.

In Collective Behaviour, the stage transforms into a dazzling landscape of mirrors, lights, and bodies. Dancers slip in and out of sight, multiply before your eyes, and dissolve into one another as if space itself is bending. Light bounces off reflective surfaces, creating optical illusions that twist time and expand the room—making it feel like infinite dancers are moving all at once.

It’s a hypnotic and physically intense performance where the dancers merge with light and shadow, with themselves and each other. One moment they’re solitary figures, the next they’re part of something larger—shifting between the individual and the collective in a constantly evolving flow of movement.

Behind the mesmerizing visuals lies a deeper exploration of how we relate to ourselves and those around us. Collective Behaviour dives into themes of identity, connection, and shared experience—blurring the line between who we are alone and who we are together.

The piece is created by Wired Studio in collaboration with the acclaimed South Korean media arts duo Kimchi and Chips. The pulsing, atmospheric soundtrack is crafted by Danish techno duo M€RCY.

About Wired Studio (DK)

Wired Studio was founded in 2019 by choreographer and artistic director Simone Wierød.

Simone Wierød graduated from Danceworks Berlin in 2014 and has since focused on choreography and the creation of her own works, which led to the founding of Wired Studio.

Wired Studio is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and produces innovative dance performances, choreographic installations and dance films. Simone Wierød and Wired Studio have toured their work to more than 50 festivals in 24 countries and have received several awards for their choreographic work.

Artistic collaboration is an essential part of Simone Wierød’s work, which always seeks to explore new forms of choreographic work and expression through interdisciplinary partnerships – often with a focus on the visual, spatial and compositional.

Specializing in the creation of dance performances, choreographic installations, and dance films, Wired Studio is renowned for their visually compelling works. The signature style of Wired Studio contains a meticulous blend of sharp, poetic nuances, an architectural appreciation for lines and geometry, and a strikingly minimalist yet voluminous aesthetic.

Central to Wired Studio’s artistic mission is the exploration of how choreography serves as a vehicle to engage with contemporary societal issues. While bodily movement serves as the primary medium, Wired Studio’s works creatively incorporate objects, spatial design, and soundscapes.

Wired Studio’s recent accomplishments have earned them a coveted spot in the Danish Arts Foundation’s developmental program for emerging artists, a recognition that underscores Wired Studio’s artistic merit and provides invaluable support for the company. Wired Studio has furthermore been assigned continuous funding from the Danish Arts Foundation for 2025/26, 2026/27 and 2027/28, which is both a huge recognition of the groundbreaking choreographic work Wired Studio create, as well as an important support in both national and international work.

Wired Studio’s recent stage productions include the innovative vertical dance performance, Axial Figures, featuring five rope artists navigating a motorized aerial rope scenography. Axial Figures premiered at Bora Bora in November 2023 and is touring in the forthcoming seasons.

Additionally, Wired Studio’s award-winning dance films, BEYOND and SOLUS, have toured more than 50 festivals worldwide and continue their journeys in the seasons to come.

About Kimchi and Chips (KR/UK)

Kimchi and Chips, the Seoul-based art and technology duo founded in 2009 by Mimi Son and Elliot Woods, explores the intersection of art, science and philosophy through their ambitious large-scale installations. Their practice is rooted in the recognition that art, science, and philosophy are not distinct disciplines, but rather alternative ways of mapping the same terrain that should be used in tandem.

Their series ‘Drawing in the Air’ combines ideas from relativistic physics with the duration-oriented philosophy of Buddhism to investigate the problematics of images in contemporary society. They personally design the technical aspects of their work, including code, electromechanics, structural engineering, optical systems, electronics engineering, AI development, etc.

Kimchi and Chips’ research-based approach has earned them recognition as pioneers in the field of advanced 3D projection, especially with their Light Barrier series which in 2014 was the world’s first project to successfully generate a volumetric image through the utilisation of light field projection within a scattering medium. Their dedication to open-source practices is evident in the over 200 code libraries they have released online, which have been adopted by other practitioners and integrated into popular creative tools.

Their work has won several awards and has been presented at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA Korea), ZKM Center for Art and Media, Somerset House, Ars Electronica, ACC Gwangju, Zeche Zollverein, SxSW and Resonate Festival, and continues to influence contemporary art and technology.
