A physical theater performance that tears into the heart of living and dying.
Do we dare to face the inevitable? That we must leave this world, just like all our loved ones? A poignant, brutal and fragile performance confronts the end of life.
Six performers explore death from multiple angles through dance, movement and words beneath a massive, tilted mirror wall. Carcass is an intense and life-affirming performance, recorded during a live performance. The screening offers a sensory and immersive experience, where the connection between the audience and the performers remains strong – even through the screen.
The six performers and their bodies attempt to find a life-affirming answer to what cannot be said in words. They push, pull and tear at each other’s bodies and psyches – to confront the raw realities: what it means to live, survive and ultimately face death. In Carcass, bodies and emotions are completely at stake: laughter breaks into tears, exhaustion meets enthusiasm, and every moment becomes an expression of deep existential questions.
Carcass is big and chaotic, just like life itself. Messy, unpredictable and filled with enormous energy. The performance challenges us to confront the most difficult questions: Who are we in the face of loss? How do we hold on to life while accepting the inevitability of death? Through its chaotic, intense and deeply human exploration, Carcass reveals that it is not only necessary to embrace change – it is the very path to accepting death and truly living.
With its powerful blend of dance, theatre and raw emotion, Carcass demands attention and courage from its audience, inviting us into a space where the dirty, beautiful and sometimes brutal experience of being alive is laid bare and questioned. This is a work that does not shy away from darkness, but meets it head-on, offering a moving meditation on existence, connection and transformation.
Please note: The performance is a physical performance, but contains elements of English speech. It also contains nudity.

While working on SHROUD, Andreas Constantinou met Dorthe Refslund Christensen, a grief researcher at Aarhus University. This meeting inspired him to invite Dorthe and her research into his artistic work. This evening, she will give a pre-talk in connection with the video screening of “Carcass”.

Reviews
★★★★★★
”I sit with a pounding heart in the audience rows and let myself be absorbed by a different and brave dance drama. (…) The performance ‘Carcass’ is a poetic gem of small subtle moments that connect to the last breath.”
– Kulturnyt (læs anmeldelsen)
★★★★★★
”I was spellbound from start to finish. (…) Life and death belong together, and this very realization the dancers embody in a fascinating way in a poetic, humorous and absurd dance with death.”
– Delfinen, Aarhus Universitet (læs anmeldelsen)
”They dance our fear of death and remind us to live life while we have it. They break with death and master the art of throwing limp bodies and 100 ways to move them. They also speak directly to the audience and have a hilarious competition for the best death. The atmosphere becomes so good that you come to care for it – death.”
– Lokalavisen Aarhus
“Choreographer Andreas Constantinous captures many of these moments in life with an open-minded sincerity that, like life, both appeals and repels us. But it’s a performance that wants something from us, and with its vital team of international dancers, it makes an impression. (…) Aris Papdopoulos, Theo Marion, Elise Ludinard, Paola Drera, Heli Pippingskold and last but not least William Cardoso demand our attention and get it. And we take the message home with us: Remember to live your life. We may end up as carcasses soon enough.”
