Fault Lines

September 2nd & 3rd, 2024, 19:30 (60 min)

A thought-provoking dance performance about a group of survivors trying to rewild and regenerate our beautiful planet.

Presented in collaboration with Aarhus Festuge.

‘Fault Lines’ is a thought-provoking dance performance by the dance company Lîla Dance, choreographed by Abi Mortimer and Carrie Whitaker.

In our relentless pursuit of progress, we have outpaced all natural rhythms on Earth. ‘Fault Lines’ revolves around a group of survivors trying to rewild and regenerate our beautiful planet.

The performance offers a hopeful glimpse into what humans can achieve when they team up and listen to the Earth. This theme is portrayed as the dancers move through various landscapes, dealing with problems that appear when living on a warmer planet.

The British dance company Lîla Dance are conscious and innovative trying to minimize their ecological footprint. Instead of single-use sets in the performance, the changing settings are created through artistic sound and lighting effects. The atmospheric soundscore is written by Nick Walker with sound design by Dougie Evans, digital light projections by Zach Walker, and moving illustrations by Courtney McCarthy.

However, it’s not just the sets that Lîla Dance has creatively considered in terms of sustainability. This also applies to the dancers on stage. When Lîla Dance visits Aarhus Festuge, they have reduced air travel by sourcing half of the dancers in Denmark through an open call.

“Fault Lines” is part of an international collaboration between Aarhus Festuge and Bora Bora from Denmark and the British Pavilion Dance South West and Askonas Holt. The collaboration aims to explore a deep touring model with a focus on environmental responsibility.

And seen through the eyes of the performance, collaboration is the keyword to a sustainable life on the planet.

Please note:
The age guidance for ‘Fault Lines’ is 12+ years.
The language of the performance is English.
