My Quiet Home

dance protest
indomitability
Ukraine
September 14th & 15th, 2023 - 19.30 (70 min.)

A moving and powerful dance protest with eight dancers. Three are Ukrainian refugees from the Russian invasion. The performance is a tribute to the indomitable strength of women, people and community across borders and generations.

“MIT STILLE HJEM” (“My Quiet Home”) is a poetic, moving and powerful dance protest against external powers that, despite their cruelty, cannot stop these women from getting on stage and dancing.

On stage are eight female dancers – three of them Ukrainian dancers on the run. They share a personal snapshot of a contemporary and historical state of war. A state, and thus a performance, where powerlessness and uncertainty meet courage and strength.

“My Quiet Home” is created through a unique artistic collaboration with three Ukrainian dancers who fled their homeland after the Russian invasion. In March 2022, Kateryna Kuznetsova, Yekateryna Bysheva and Oleksandra Maksimchuk joined Holstebro Dance Company. after the company helped them out of Ukraine. Together with the company’s sole artistic director David C. Price, the dancers have created the dance performance “My Quiet Home”.

The performance is a powerful tribute to the indomitable strength that lies in the woman and the human being as well as in the community – both the near and the far across global borders and generations.

PLEASE NOTE: The performance uses smoke, strobe lights and loud noises. The thematic and topicality of the performance centres around war and trauma.

Suitable for ages 15 and up.

Regarding the “K7” ticket type: This ticket can only be purchased by young people between the ages of 18 and 25 and is part of the nationwide K7 campaign.

Reviews

“Whatever I do, I can’t forget the three Ukrainian women in the dance performance My Quiet Home… These Ukrainian women clearly dance with the same stubbornness as their men fight in the war. My Quiet Home is a physical tour de force of endurance technique and gymnast-like agility. At the same time, a gentle sadness radiates so sincerely from the dancers that tears roll down the spectator’s cheeks. Sigh, how beautiful it is.”
– Anne Middelboe-Christensen, Dagbladet Information

“… what hit me right in the emotional nerve was ‘My Quiet Home’. The young women threw themselves into the dance like fighting Amazons, but at the same time with a vulnerability that went through marrow and bone.”
– Monna Dithmer, Politiken
