What is happiness?

Humans have probably always reflected on what happiness is: Is happiness living up to the norms of an honorable life? To experience as much as possible before it is too late? Or to live out its full potential?

Many have historically fought for the right to be happy, but in recent years the idea of happiness, however, is shifting from being a right and to becoming a duty. Because the happy man is a productive man, and therefore Chief Happiness Officers are employed in companies, and nations brand themselves on international happiness indexes. Happiness has become a duty that the individual is responsible for creating. It sounds almost completely miserable!

Based on the book “Kampen om lykken” (The Battle For Happiness – 2020), which Svend Brinkmann has co-published, in this lecture he examines the essence of happiness – both historically and in the current happiness-focused society – and he asks: what we can do for our own and others people’s happiness.
