A PART OF MOVE YOUR MIND FESTIVAL

What if our future bodies develop additional extensions, special features and extra tools? How will this effect the way we move, relate, express and communicate in a posthuman world? TECHNO FAUNA is a dance piece that speculates on the future of human existence, it’s transformation and adaptation. It explores the limits of the body, it’s archeology and the possibility to morph with it’s surroundings. Portuguese choreographer Liliana Barros offers her strongly visual take in a beautiful and precise choreography.

What if our future bodies would have developed additional extensions, special features and extra tools? How would this effect the way we move, relate, express and communicate in a posthuman world?

TECHNO FAUNA is a dance piece that speculates on the future of human existence, it’s transformation and adaptation. It explores the limits of the body, it’s archeology and the possibility to morph with it’s surroundings.

In an abstract post-apocalyptic time where new beings reign, three figures navigate a realm of relations, developed tactics and power plays. Desperate search for connection? Are we facing a utopian or a dystopian future destiny? The necessity to look into an altered world and the importance of touching these ideas, is not so much to answer the why, but rather to extend our imagination. It is an opportunity to look into different projections and scenarios.

Liliana Barros and the dancers worked at Bora Bora during the creation process of TECHNO FAUNA as part of an artist residency at Bora Bora Residency Centre. The performance had its world premiere at LOT-Theater in Germany on September 30, 2021.

REVIEWS

“The whole thing seems perfectly choreographed. Even if everyone dances for themselves, they know exactly what the others are doing. It’s like watching a ritual, in which everyone has their place, that is eerily impressive, but pertains to a religion too complex for our human minds to comprehend. (…) Barros does not give a single answer to the question of how the future man will move. Instead, it provides food for thought with various scenarios. It would also be interesting to find out why people have become people like that and how this can still be prevented. Because after “Techno Fauna” one thing is certain: this future will not be pleasant.”
