Twisted Forest – A Human Imagination Game

imagination game
interactive
nature experience
TWISTED FOREST is a "live interaction game" in a forest with you in the leading role. You walk in a small group, sometimes alone, through the experience. On the surface, it is an ordinary forest, but you encounter creatures, objects and experiences that make you see both the forest and yourself in a new way.
Venue: Røgen Præstegårdsskov in Favrskov Municipality.

About the performance

Wearing a protective suit, you are led through bushes, over tree stumps, down slopes, very close to bark and grass. TWISTED FOREST goes off the trails and manifests itself in invisible zones scattered throughout the landscape. You only realize that you are in a zone when you enter it. In some zones you meet performers who challenge your immediate perception of the place and open up darkened facets of your senses – well aided by the ingenious anatomy of the forest. At other times, your group finds its own direction and is invited into experiences via the GPS-based soundscape.

TWISTED FOREST and its inhabitants want to interact with you, they see your potential. You are trained to hone untested senses, control your organs and your skeleton with the goal of raising your imagination to a new level.

About Wunderland (DK)

Wunderland’s artistic director is Mette Aakjær and Wunderland co-creates the works with international artists from different disciplines – performance, sound art, poetry, visual art, dance etc.

Wunderland seeks a radical dissolution of the hierarchy between intellect and bodily intelligence. Wunderland has been working with immersive, highly bodily participatory and interactive performances since 2007. Wunderland often work in partnerships such as MOMU (Moesgaard Museum), ARoS Art Museum, Reykjavik Arts Festival, Bora Bora and others, and with projects developing in different locations and in different countries over several years.

“Wunderland is awarded for inviting the audience into their own adventure, where boundaries must be crossed and resistance broken down to reach goals. For a strong language that bombards the body’s sensory apparatus and a consistent staging that challenges the audience’s perception. As well as for combining the ‘dry’ interactive technology with a sensory-saturating experience that sticks in the memory long after you have left the experience. “ (quote from awarding of previous performance, Statens Kunstfond)

A Nordic project
The project is a Nordic project where we work across national borders and collaborate with local associations in the further development of the project. Twisted Forest must be further developed and played in the forests: Ballebjerg on Samsø (April-May 2023), Hide on Gotland, Sweden (June 2023) and Heiðmörk near Reykjavik, Iceland (August-September 2023).
