Julienne Doko (DK/RCA/FR)
W.O.M.B.
PART OF DET FRIE FELTS FESTIVAL
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
The choreographic work “W.O.M.B. – Worth Of My Body” by Julienne Doko deals with the themes of pregnancy, motherhood and body transformation in connection with childbirth. The performance was inspired by a painting by Michael Kvium, which the choreographer saw when she was pregnant. She identified with a crippled figure in the painting. What changes would her body undergo in connection with the birth? The reference to the painting can be seen in the darkened stage space, where three performers and mothers are each in a spotlight with lemons placed around them. Julienne Doko is one of the three dancers, all of whom have an African background. A percussionist is also present on the stage. The performance is based on the three dancers’ own lives, and is comprised of various different dance styles and techniques: Afro-Brazilian, traditional Ghanaian and Guinean dance. The space alters as the dancers move the lemons around. The work was developed in residencies at HAUT, Åben Dans, Teater Zeppelin and Teater Momentum.
Non-verbal performance.
There will be a 15-minute artist talk on stage after the performance.
