A warrior and a conductor. One can destroy, one can create. When are you powerful and when is it power that drives you? Each of the two women examines the myth of the powerful solitary figure. The two solo works are thematically intertwined despite their diverse expressions.

An AEROWAVES double programme.

Warrior - Anne-Mareike Hess (LUX/DE)

My enemy is my fear
And it takes my breath away
So I call to fight with love, open up my heart
I call you to fight with love, open up your heart

Seduced by the belief that a fierce strongman, is all we need to get things done and save the world, choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess, takes us in her solo on a journey of becoming a warrior. Within a distorted and at the same time soft soundscape emerges a profoundly poetic image of human fragility and inner disruption. A dancing body caught in a perpetual fight with its emotions.

Don't Stop - Tereza Lenerová (CZ)

Calmly survey the hall.
Hold your breath.
Raise your hand.
Wait for silence and for everyone to settle down.
Set the tempo, seize attention, and hold it firmly in your grasp.
Now!

In “Don’t Stop” Tereza Lenerová tests the possibilities of expressing the ungraspable worlds of music, passion, sexuality…

The starting point for this topic is the figure of the conductor, a person who seemingly holds the keys to the world of music. Hradilková reveals the desire to control music, she is interested in the moments when she has the situation under control, all the more so when music (passion) dominates and physical expression is at first glance in disharmony.

She asks when and how we assume the role of conductor in our own lives, to what extent do we hold passion under control and when does passion have control over us.

Who is the conductor within us?

Anmeldelser

Warrior

“Warrior is with few resources, thoughtful, powerful and full of political explosive power. (…) In just over 45 minutes, she dissects all of these archetypal, recognizable patterns and templates. (…) A place between dignity and ridiculousness, between heroism, deadly fighting spirit and fears or fragility.”
– Luxemburger Wort

“A wonderful discovery.”
– Dieter Hartwig, Tanznetz.de

”Warrior, the latest creation of choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess, is a phenomenal act of resistance she reveals through a metamorphosis of her body.”
– La Glaneuse

Warrior

”Ane of the artists who, through her presence, instantly fills the whole space and captivates the spectator. (…) The proof that the radiant emittance of force has nothing to do with pomp and sensationalism. (…) Femininity itself is celebrated and put in relation to strength. (…) When the “fight” comes to an end it has created a noticeable intimacy between the dancer and the audience. The initially individual struggle became a common one.”
– Journal

”The piece hits the zeitgeist very precisely. (…) “Warrior” is a piece that tells us a lot about creating a warrior type, empowerment through the discovery of one’s own voice and the constant, sometimes humorous, failure on the way there.”
– Sarah Moessner, Tanznetz.de

Tomáš Dvořák

The music in “Don’t Stop” is created by Floex (Tomáš Dvořák), a Czech clarinettist, producer and multimedia artist. In his music Floex creates unique atmospheric universe exploring the possibilities of the coexistence between electronic and acoustic sound worlds. His discography contains more like 10 albums including the world renowned soundtrack for “Machinarium” as well as “Zorya”. Recent collaboration with UK composer Tom Hodge, album “A Portrait Of John Doe” (2018 UK Decca Classics / Mercury KX) creates new level of synergy where classical music and radical “avant-garde” electronic music blends into a unique organic universe.
