About the performance
Mushroom is a powerful musical statement and work that mixes instrumental theater, performance, scenography, video and electroacoustic music. A work written for seven specific musicians and the composer himself, who together have determined the instrumentation of the work. It is the preliminary first artistic meeting between the Scenata and James Black and together they create James Black’s greatest work to date.
About the artists
James Black:
(UK, 1990) is a composer and he often centralizes performative and theatrical elements in his works. James Black has studied saxophone, musicology and composition at Oxford University, and completed his composition studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In 2020 he received the Danish Arts Foundation’s large work grant, just as in 2019 he received the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Talent Prize and in 2018 the Pelle Prize.
Scenatet:
(DK, 2008) is led by Anna Berit Asp Christensen and works in a field between new compositional music and conceptual art – often with a surprisingly bodily and sensuous approach to exploring the interplay between music, art and people. For the past 14 years, Scenatet has positioned itself as one of Europe’s leaders in new, international compositional music and art. Far-reaching Danish works and major international appearances and world premieres are all natural elements in the Stage’s ongoing work. By bringing a wide-ranging repertoire to untraditional venues, acclaimed festivals and cultural hotspots around the world, Scenatet makes the most interesting experimental music and art widely available both locally and internationally.
