UNSEX ME HERE
UNSEX ME HERE is a dance and drag performance exploring the figures of the Queen and the Witch in Western history and contemporary queer life.
Drag queen/choreographer Olympia Bukkakis and dancer/choreographer Maria F. Scaroni take seriously the roles they are often humorously assigned: queen and witch. Through these figures they explore what it means to be monarch and healer, drag queen and crone, trans femme and (peri)menopausal woman—childless yet fruitful, refusing reproduction while still multiplying.
Their first collaboration stages a duet rooted in lived experience and their shared practice of somatic drag, which fuses bodily awareness and social context with the excess, satire, and pleasure of drag to engage with “outsider” femininites past and present.
Beginning with two familiars alone in a room strewn with the debris of feminine life, the piece unfolds through costume, movement, voice, virtuosic nonsense, and ritual. UNSEX ME HERE culminates in a kaleidoscope of feminist solidarity, where trans femmes meet sages-femmes and silenced queens make themselves heard.
MINORITY MAN
MINORITY MAN is a solo performance with drag king Robin. The catalyst in MINORITY MAN is Robin’s experience that men have become the losers in society. However, blaming feminism, like followers of Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate do, is too banal. He instead moves out of the crisis-stricken masculinity by penetrating a new community, fascinated as he is by the subversive potential he finds in the queer family.
Well-intentioned but ignorant, Robin is an ally that the queer community has neither asked for nor wanted, he hijacks someone else’s struggle and makes it about himself. He explores and expands his identity as a straight man to make himself relevant in today’s society. Minority Man is heartfelt satire on how Robin in inventing new ways of being a man, offers new fictions for the future.
About Olympia Bukkakis (AUS/DE) & Maria F. Scaroni (ITA/DE)
Olympia and Maria are based in Berlin and are choreographers, performers, and live artists whose practices engage embodied pleasure, social choreography, and queer forms of social reproduction. Their work critically addresses the imprint of oppressive systems on the body while proposing alternative modes of community-building, care, and solidarity.
Maria’s somatic practice and involvement in collective projects of social healing, including the Social Pleasure Center, have often aligned her with the archetype of the witch. Olympia’s drag practice and leadership in queer subcultural initiatives have frequently positioned her as a queen.
Both artists are experienced organizers, facilitators, and educators who have trained multiple generations of dancers and performers. Maria has collaborated extensively with Meg Stuart, while Olympia has organized queer events in Berlin for over a decade and is active in contemporary dance. Most recently, Olympia founded the Drag Resources Action Group (D.R.A.G.) to advocate for improved working conditions in drag.
About Drag King Robin / Ann-Christin Kongsness (NO)
Robin is the dragking alter ego of performer and choreographer Ann-Christin Kongsness (NO). Several of her projects inhabits explicit queer perspectives, namely the conversation series Queer Dance Art and the performance series Butch Tribute, where she and Marte Sterud are celebrating queer, female masculinity through diversifying the representation of butches.
Robin is a founding member of the Scandinavian drag king collective Gutta, together with Lavrans (Desiree Bøgh Vaksdal), RichHard (Josephine Kylén Collins) and Larry (Lærke Grøntved). Lavrans is joining Minority Man as a light designer and performer.
